Figueres, a beautiful city in the Barcelona’s province which name means “Fig Treesâ€. Birthplace of Salvador Dali, just 20 minutes far from the Costa Brava’s beaches and close to France is not as touristic as Barcelona and that’s what give Figueres all it charm.
Visit the Sant Ferran Castle, at the end of Pujada del Castell, biggest monument of Catalonia, walk on La Rambla to Plaça Gala i Salvador Dali. At the nº5 of this place, stop and visit the Museum Theater of Dali, build on the site of the old theater of Figueres it now offers a large panel of Dali’s works. Other lovely sites are worth seeing such as Plaça de l’Esglesia (“Church Placeâ€), Plaça de les Patates (Potatoes Place!) or the Municipal Theater El JardÃ.
Travelling with kids, bring them to the Toy museum of Catalonia within the Hotel Paris on Carrer de Sant Pere,1. With more than 4,000 toys of every kind, dolls, planes, teddy bears and even Dali or Miró’s toys, this museum will make you fall down into childhood!
Art lovers, have a look at the Empordà Museum, it contains one of the most impressive art collection of Catalonia and even pieces from the Prado!
