SANTS AND MONTJUÏC

Sants neighbourhood is a residential area where the main train station (Estación de Sants) is located with its high speed train (A.V.E.) connecting Madrid to Barcelona in less than 3 hours. Don’t miss the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial just behind the station to have a picnic. It offers you the opportunity of enjoy a peaceful time on a boating lake, far from the noise of the city.

Have a walk through the longest commercial street of Europe on Carrer de Sants (nowadays the name of the street is Carrer de Collblanc).

Following this road you will reach Plaça Espanya.

This spectacular square is the entrance to Montjuïc hill. Admire the monumental Arenas, formerly bullfighting arenas converted into a commercial center. On the roof you will have a 360º incredible view of the entire city.

Walk along Maria Cristina Avenue to reach the Museum and the Monumental Fountain. This latter offers an impressive light and water show at night. The Magic Fountain in a must see and an entertainment place for the whole family!

Climb the hill and visit the Caixa Forum where you will enjoy nice art exhibitions.

Looking for an injection of culture? Go visit the Joan Miró foundation which hosts the most important collection of the artist’s work; or the MNAC, the National Art Museum of Catalonia in the Palau National. If you prefer history then the Arqueological Museum or the Ethnologic Museum are for you.

The Olympics games of 1992 had a huge impact on Barcelona both on a touristic and architectural way.

In order to notice that, visit the Anella Olímpica. This Olympic Ring was the center of the festivities with the impressive Olympic stadium, the Bernat Picornell’s swimming-pool still open and the Palau Sant Jordi, huge monument which looks like a turtle.

Don’t miss the communication tower in the middle of the Ring, in shape of an athlete holding an Olympic Torch. The antenna was made by Santiago Calatrava (the very famous valencian architect), and was the symbol of the Games.

The Montjuïc Castle at the top of the mountain is also a visit not to be missed! Enjoy stunning views above all Barcelona.

Icon of the city’s history, it is the symbol of the wars Barcelona went through and the place of important events of the Catalan history.

In this district you just can’t miss the Monjtuïc Park with all its gardens: Botanic Garden, Petra Kelly Garden, the Mirador Garden and the Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer!

You can’t leave this area without going to Poble-Sec. This neighbourhood, located at the foot of Montjuïc goes to Avenida Paralel. This popular district still hides shelters built during the civil war, such as Refugi 307.
